This Course, all taught in English, focuses on the recreation, sport and leisure of Spain and United States. Based at the University of Alicante, you can experience first hand the richness of Spanish culture and a wide range of recreation, sports and leisure activities including international beaches, festivals and food and craft markets. You will study with Spanish students and students from other European universities. Through classroom study and visits to recreational sites nearby, you will gain new insights to help balance work and play
*Official Diploma: 5 ECTS credits (40 contact hours)
*Classes run MONDAYS through FRIDAYS from 9 am to 1pm, except for some activities.

OBJETIVES:
The main objective of this part of the course is to present a general overview of the field of sports, leisure and recreation in Spain with special mention to the public sector, people with disabilities and health promotion across the lifespan. After completing this course the student should be able to:
CONTENT:
This part of the course will be divided into classroom activities, and practical experiences and field trips. The classroom activities will provide an understanding of the structure of the sports, leisure and recreation field in Spain paying special attention to the public sector, to people with disabilities and health promotion activities. Furthermore, an overview about sports and recreation leadership and professional opportunities in the field in Spain will be given.

EVALUATION:
Students will be evaluated on the basis of their performance in workshop discussions and on the basis of the creative assignments they complete on a daily basis. This will account for 60% of the final grade. After the conclusion of the classes, each student will turn in a portfolio of edited creative work to Juan Tortosa Martínez by email. The portfolio will account for 40% of the final grade of Modulo A.
Sports, Leisure and Recreation in the United States

OBJECTIVES:
The main objective of this part of the course is to present a general overview of the field of sports, leisure and recreation in the United States establishing common characteristics as well as differences with the situation in Spain, in order to learn from different approaches in this field and the different social contexts of each country. After completing this course the student should be able to:
CONTENT:
This part of the course will take place with classroom activities, which will provide an understanding of the structure of the sports, leisure and recreation field in the United States paying special attention to the public sector, to people with disabilities, and to health promotion activities. Comparison between the situation in Spain and the United States will be given constantly. Furthermore, an overview about professional career opportunities in the field in the United States will be provided.

EVALUATION:

*Note: The grade from Module A accounts for 50% of the final grade, and the grade from Module B accounts for the other 50%.
