From June 14 to June 28

This International two-week program, taught in English and Spanish, is an excellent opportunity for cross-cultural learning between different students. Students from Memphis (USA) and from different European universities, including Alicante, participate in this program. Several outdoor activities and field trips are included.

*Official Diploma:  5 ECTS credits (40 contact hours)
* Classes run MONDAYS through FRIDAYS in the morning (9:00 am to 1:00 pm)

 

MODULE A - University of Alicante

Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language (ELE): 9:00-11:00

OBJECTIVES: This class will provide the students with the necessary skills to teach Spanish as a foreign language through a communicative and interactive methodology. Spanish, American and other international students will work in small groups where they will learn how to teach effectively in class. 

CONTENT:

  1. Teaching Spanish as a Foreign language: models and techniques.
  2. Analysis of methods to teach/learn Spanish as a foreign language
  3. Analysis of materials to teach/learn ELE (pronunciation, vocabulary, listening)
  4. Using the Internet and The New Technologies as a tool to teach/learn
  5. Implementing (Self-) Testing and different assessment methodologies.

 

MODULE B - University of Memphis, EEU

Teaching English (TEFL) from an American Perspective

OBJECTIVES: This course is designed to give participants the basic skills necessary for an introductory career in Teaching English as a Foreign or Second Language [EFL/ESL].

CONTENT: The course will cover brief introductions to essential topics including:

  • Your goals, your students’ goals

  • Managing your classroom

  • Culture and Language

  • Learning with Self-Access

  • L1 and L2 learning/acquisition

  • the TEFL Career

  • The 5 Skills: Writing, Listening, Speaking, Reading, Grammaring

  • Teaching evaluation

  • Teaching Vocabulary


  • Teaching & Learning Styles


  • Authentic Materials in the Classroom


  • Testing and Assessment


  • Multilevel Classrooms


  • Teaching with Games






EVALUATION:

Your grade in this class will depend on your class attendance, participation, a final exam and presentation (team work)
